Who is it for ?: PlayStation users, PS Plus subscribers, and those with a great appetite for channel diversity.
We’ll be honest: PlayStation Vue prices and packages are confusing, in part because membership contracts are extremely complicated.
Which channels you will get – and even what plans are available – will depend on your location. PlayStation Vue packages come in two versions: with local channels or without local channels.
Packages that do not include local programming are called “slim”. For example, the Basic Access package costs $ 40 per month in markets where local channels are included.
In all other markets, however, Access Slim costs $ 30 per month and does not include local live programming (primetime content is still available on demand).
Thus, Access and Access Slim offer you 45 live channels, including ESPN, CNN, AMC, for $ 40 / $ 30 per month, respectively.
Those with the Access plan will have access to local ABC, NBC, FOX and (in some markets) CBS stations, while Access Slim customers will also have access on demand.
Beyond Access and Access Slim, Vue has three more subscription levels. Core / Core Slim, which offers 60 channels at $ 45 / $ 35 per month, adding channels such as CSN, ESPNEWS and ESPN U, as well as Turner Classic Movies. The Elite / Elite Slim offers 90 channels at $ 55 / $ 45 per month and adds EPIX Hits, Machinima and many others.
The top-level package is the Ultra / Ultra Slim, which includes more than 90 channels, in addition to HBO and Showtime, for a total of $ 75 / $ 65 per month.
However, there are not many options when it comes to on-demand services. In addition, independent subscriptions are available for the aforementioned Showtime and HBO services, as well as for Machinima, Fox Soccer Plus and EPIX Hits with different prices.
Recently, Vue eliminated the Viacom channels from its service – MTV, MTV2, VH1, Spike and Comedy Central. On the contrary, several channels were added including ESPN, BBC America, VICE, NBC Sports and many more. But if you want more information, you can see the complete PlayStation Vue programming on the service’s homepage.
